Missions is not an option, it is a command. Missions is not just a trip, it is a battle plan. Missions is not just for the trained and specialized, it is for every Christian. Missions is not just for the called to full-time, it is for every Christian to go at least part-time. Hear from Psalm 117, the shortest chapter in the Psalms and the shortest chapter in all the Bible, about the importance of understanding your call to missions!

David was the King of Israel…God’s people. He has been known throughout history as the “man AFTER God’s own heart.” But David screwed up ROYALLY. He committed adultery with Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba. He killed Uriah to cover up for his sin since she got pregnant. So now, he finds himself the King of God’s people, a cheater, an adulterer, a liar, and a murder. Our churches today can be all outta whack with emotion. Some churches are suped up on some crazy emotion. Other churches are just a boring bunch of nerds who don’t ever show emotion in worship. Then there are Christians out there walking around emotionless for Jesus like a bunch of androids, and others are like emotional roller-coasters who have no balancing faith to their feelings. What does God’s Word say about our emotions when it comes to worship? Check it out. This study got good fast!

In the newest installment of our iWorship series, this is the first application of worship. We first talked about the WHO of worship: Jesus. Then we talked about how we are created as humanity: WORSHIPPERS. So now, we’re looking at the most important place and the most important people that we are biblically called to worship at and with…THE CHURCH. Check this out more to understand why “You only love worshipping Jesus as much as you love worshipping Him WITH THE CHURCH.”

Our new series rolls on with message #2 “iWorship: as Humanity”.  In this message we studied the different Psalms that talk about who we are as humanity, how we’re supposed to worship as humanity, and who we are supposed to worship as humanity.  Psalm 8 and 139 are amazing Psalms that give us deep insight into these themes.  I pray you will be blessed and challenged!

This is our brand new series through the book of Psalms called “Apps for iWorship”.  In this series, we are learning how to apply worship to all of our lives.  It will last three months…May – July, and there will be 9 specific applications discussed through the Psalms: Jesus, humanity, the church, singing, emotion, the Word, prayer, confession, and missions.  Literally we are saying that through the book of Psalms “iWorship Jesus, as humanity, with the church, through singing, and emotions, from the Word, along with prayer, and confession of sin, for missions” so that He will be known!  In this series, God has called us to strip away all the flash and entertainment so that we can straight-up focus on Christ during our entire worship service.  No more funny service intro videos or crazy games to get the students hyped-up.  They are walking in, praying, hearing Scripture being read, worshipping, hearing almost an hour of preaching, and worshipping more.  I’m praying God will demolish our lives in this series with his wrecking ball, and then build us back up in Christ alone!   Continue reading ‘storyline #79: Psalm 1 “Apps for iWorship: Jesus″’

cbsm sermon video: “doctrine of providence – you’ve got questions, we’ve got answers”

Our students had tons of questions from the Doctrine of Providence series.  So here is how we answer their super tough questions to this crazy deep doctrine. Here are some questions:

Does God still send catastrophes to discipline nations or people for sin?

How can God use natural catastrophes like earthquakes and hurricanes to cause certain people to have the opportunity to change so that they follow God’s will, but at the same time cause great destruction or death for others that apparently are already following God’s will in the same affected area?

How do you choose between multiple options of good things for God’s will?

Since God has it all planned out, should I just quit applying to so many colleges?

If God already knows what is going to happen in the future, then why does He have a  will for our lives?

If God is in control, then we’re just finger puppets. If God gives us choices, then God is out of control.  Which is it?

Does God have us a specific person for us to marry?

Does God get tired of hearing same prayers?

Why does a sov wise God answer prayers of dumb humans?

If God is all knowing and does not change His mind, how does prayer change His mind?
