CBSM Podcast on iTunes
CBSM students, parents, and leaders:
I just got back from a BASIC Mission Trip planning meeting in Detroit last weekend, and it went great! If you are going to BASIC this summer with us in Detroit, you are going to LOVE it! If you are going to BASIC in the coming years…its going to get even better every year! Aight, so for this week…we’ll be finishing up our series on the Doctrine of Providence. It will be a strong challenge to end it out…just warning you! Also remember to get in your Beach Camp deposit and registration super soon. Your all-nighter registration and $40 is due April 11. And if you’re wanting to go on BASIC or ADVANCE mission trips this summer…you’ll need to talk to me. Lastly, remember that this Sunday is Easter Sunday! Our service schedule is different. We’ll have TWO worship services: at 8am and 11am. Coming to either one is fine, but if you can’t decide then just come at 8am to make more room for the 11am visitor crowd. Our Sunday School Small Groups will be at 9:45am (one time change for Easter only), and we’ll all stay in the student building for some worship and Q&A from the Doctrine of Providence. Make sure to email me your questions from this series, and I’ll answer them this Sunday.

I had a past professor/friend who asked me what we did to train leaders within our student ministry. I thought I’d share with you my most honest answer:
“First of all, we define leadership here at CBSM as: following Christ and bringing others along with you. So, our first focus is to center all of students onto Christ, and then we offer leadership training for those who want to both follow Christ and lead others toward Him. We do this in several different ways of course. First, we do this through preaching. I am convinced that I am called to primarily preach to my 12 grade guys even though there are students present in the room all the way down to 7th grade. I’ve learned that if I focus on my 12th grade guys, then I will reach them and all other students under them. But if I focus on younger students, I will get the younger students back…but I won’t get any of the older students for the most part. So training for leadership first starts through our preaching because preaching is what cultivates a heart for Christ most. We have a very specific system of preaching at CBSM… In 6 years (from 7th – 12th grade) we are preaching through the entire Bible (in order from Genesis – Revelation) and also through all 13 major Christian doctrines (from Doctrine of Christ – Doctrine of End Times). Our preaching is usually 45 minutes long, always Christ-centered, always expository, always grounded in the gospel, and always in your face challenging. That is what we’ve found produces and identifies leaders best. Continue reading ‘Student Leadership Training at CBSM’

I’ve often heard it said that today’s teenagers have two top questions: How can I be sure I’m really saved? And, how can I know for sure what God’s will is for my life? This sermon seeks to answer both of those questions, but it mostly centers on God’s individual will for our lives. This sermon will cover what God’s will is not, what the definition of God’s will is, different aspects of God’s will, and how we can know what God’s will is for us personally. I pray this helps your life and ministry!
In this sermon, we tried to biblically answer tough questions like: How could a good God allow evil? Why would God create Satan knowing he would lead the world into sin? Why would God create Adam with an ability to sin and allow Him to sin knowing Adam would drag down the world with him? If God loves life and hates death, why would God demand death after Adam sinned? If God seemingly loves me, why does He allow hurt, suffering, pain, and evil in my life?

CBSM students and parents,
I just got back from skiing in Colorado last week with one of our CBSM families. I gotta say, I had the time of my life skiing for 4 days straight, going down a double black diamond, and being humbled by looking like a complete wobbly nerd on skis! But HERE is my favorite place to be, and I can’t wait for our CBSM worship service this Wednesday especially since we had to skip it last week for spring break. Also, Mrs. Margaret Petty and the RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) Team would like for you to bring a “gently used” book to donate this Wednesday night as they are stocking the Triana Library. So, yall bring in a book so we can show and share God’s love through Christ with others.
NETMA is attached for your viewing pleasure. Be sure to check out the Reading Plan for this week.
Here’s what you need to know for this week…
STORYLINE Wednesday Worship (6:00 – 8:00pm)

Be asking around like a crazy person to get several people to come! As always we’ll have an amazing worship service, and tons of students for you to hang out with.
FRAMEWORK Sunday School (9:15 – 10:15am)
This Sunday, we will all meet in the student building at 9:15am for our weekly announcements and then break-up into our small groups and go to the small group rooms.
MINISTRY TEAMS Sunday Evening (6:30 – 7:30pm)
This Sunday night, our SMT’s will be in full-force. Be sure to check with your Student Ministry Team leader for where and when. Continue to serve Christ faithfully!

KTL 07 – Preaching the Application of Your Text (mp3)
In this KTL session, we reviewed the last week’s lesson on how to point your passage to the gospel of Christ, and then our 4 main preacher dudes discussed how they saw their personal passages point to the person and work of Christ. The second part of the session was me teaching them the importance and the way to preach applicationally from their passage. Hope you enjoy.
